Saturday Night Live (SNL) has always been a platform for delivering laughs and poking fun at current events. Recently, a gem of a sketch about climate change featuring Kumail Nanjiani and Beck Bennett was unfortunately cut for time. But fear not, because we’re here to give you the inside scoop on this side-splitting skit that has YouTube viewers rolling.
In the sketch, Beck Bennett plays actor Blake Vilanti, who is bent on fixing the environment “before any other actor.” “I actually screamed because of how on point it is about Ian Somerhalder,” replied one YouTube commenter. Another noted, “What? Is this a mockery on Ian Somerhalder?” Kumail Nanjiani is Dr. Robert Khan, “one of the highest grossing doctors in the climate world.” “I love how the actor thinks every profession ranks success based on their box office,” said a viewer.
“Kumail’s reaction to ‘what is the ocean?’ deserves an Oscar,” praises one commenter.
“‘Water levels are rising.’ ‘Because of how many fish there are.’ He might be dumb, but at least he understands Archimedes’ principle,” replied one savvy commenter.
In response to Kumail explaining coral bleaching, Beck exclaims, “Whoa! This is my girlfriend. Her body’s insane, but she thinks I drive too many red cars.” Kumail: “What?!” Beck: “TOO MANY RED C..” Comedy gold.
Beck: “The environment was getting worse, and I had a hard out at 5:30, so we needed to act quick.” “Another environment defeated!”
“I think if Beck had a shirt with a deeper V it could save the environment,” joked one commentator.
The chemistry between Nanjiani and Bennett is electric, with their banter and comedic timing elevating the sketch to new heights. Nanjiani’s deadpan delivery and Bennett’s clueless demeanor perfectly complement each other, creating a dynamic duo that’s impossible not to love.
